The 'Today' host shared an anecdote about the early days of her parents' marriage — and one big accident they had!

Former President George W. Bush was once so taken aback by former First Lady Laura Bush's honesty he crashed their car, according to their daughter, Jenna Bush Hager.

On the Wednesday, April 24 episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna, Bush Hager shared with co-host Hoda Kotb that during the early days of her father's marriage to Laura, 77, he accidentally drove into their garage!

Bush Hager, 42, said the accident occurred after her mother gave the former president, 77, some feedback that he wasn't expecting.

“When my parents were first married, my dad gave a speech in Midland, Texas and they were driving home and he thought, ‘Yeah that was pretty good,’” said Bush Hager.

“[And he said,] ‘So Laura, how do you think I did?’” continued the Today host. “And she sort of stalled, because my mom is not very confrontational. And finally, she just said, ‘It wasn’t very good. It really wasn’t.’”

“And he drove the car into the garage. On accident! He drove the car into the garage, I guess he hit the wall — we should get the details,” Bush Hager recalled. “But he was so stunned by the honesty that he wasn’t paying attention to where he was going. I think he was looking at her. And then… crashed!”

She explained that her father was just starting his career, adding, “He probably didn’t know the difference.”

“They were very young. They had just gotten married,” said Bush Hager.

“My mom said when they first got together, he spoke in rhyme only because he was just like, so enamored by her that he spoke in rhyme! I’m not sure,” she continued. “But he was so crazy about this love, that I think probably she had never said anything that wasn’t [supportive].”

The former president still expresses his love for his wife with kind gestures 47 years into their marriage. “My dad brings my mom the cup of coffee the way she likes it. Every. Single. Morning," Bush Hager said during the March 21 episode of Today.

When Kotb asked if he really does so "every single morning," Bush Hager added that Bush also does this for her and her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush.

"Every single morning," Bush Hager said. "And when we're visiting in Dallas, he brings Barbara and me a cup of coffee."

The latest anecdote arose while Bush Hager and Kotb were discussing Jon Bon Jovi’s PEOPLE cover story. In the interview, the singer revealed his wife Dorothea Bon Jovi had a frank conversation with him about a performance that "wasn't great" — which eventually prompted him to receive vocal surgery.
